FLORA-QUEST, May 2-4

EXPLORING OHIOS WILDEST LANDSCAPE

Flora-Quest is a hand’s-on learning adventure focusing on spring wildflowers. Taking place at the beautiful 65,000-acre Shawnee State Forest on May 2-4, a mind-boggling array of plants is at participants fingertips, and just to the west of Shawnee in Adams County is the 14,000 acre Edge of Appalachia preserve with one of the state’s highest concentrations of rare plants. Flora-Quest trips are split between Shawnee and the Edge with tours offering participants the greatest botanical adventure to be had in Ohio and at the best time of year to explore the region. Upwards of 1,000 species of native plants are found in this area alone.

In addition to learning about common plants, Flora-Quest participants will also have the opportunity to observe a number of rare plants and flowers. Field trips include two expeditions – one to the Edge of Appalachia region and the other to Shawnee State Forest.

Some of Ohio’s top botanists and naturalists lead Flora-Quest expeditions and are intimately familiar with plant life in the region. Their leadership is invaluable as first-timers are often overwhelmed by the vastness of Shawnee and the Edge of Appalachia. Guides are also knowledgeable in other facets of natural history, such as birds, butterflies, mosses, lichens, and geology.

Headquartered at Shawnee State Park Lodge, prices for the event range from $100.00 without meals to $185.00 which includes meals. Price does not include lodging.

For lodging in information go to www.adamscountytravel.org  or http://www.flora-quest.com/

May is a time of rebirth in the natural world, and there is no better place to be than in the woodlands of Adams County and Shawnee State Forest to experience spring.
